More details have emerged regarding the hospitalisation of rapper DMX.

The 50-year-old musician was rushed to a New York hospital last week following a reported heart attack and is currently on life support in a critical care unit.

Now it's been revealed DMX — real name Earl Simmons — had to be resuscitated numerous times as he made his way to White Plains Hospital.

"[Paramedics] tried to revive him twice in the house, and revived him again in the hospital," a source told ET. "This is a very difficult time for the family. They are standing by his bedside, holding his hand and praying. They are really in prayer mode."

The source added that DMX had recently battled COVID-19 and claimed he had relapsed with his drug addiction. Angelo Ellerbee, a rep for the star, also told ET that DMX remains in a critical condition.

"He is in a medical state from which I don't think he will recover," he said.
