Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas stage traditional Sangeet dance contest before lavish wedding
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas' weekend wedding extravaganza looked more like a Bollywood production than anything else, and that's exactly how they wanted it.
The couple reportedly tied the knot over the weekend at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India, but not before partaking in the traditional Indian ceremony known as the Sangeet -- a lavish and lively dance celebration typically held one day before the wedding.
"One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other's faiths and cultures," they wrote on their respective Instagrams. "And so planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so, so amazing. Once again, we made it our own and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed."
But just because the Jonas and Chopras were now one big happy family doesn't mean there isn't any friendly competition between them, with the bride describing the dance-off as "fierce."
"It all began as a fierce song & dance competition between the families but ended, as always, as a huge celebration of love," Chopra, 36, wrote on Instagram. "Nick and I were looking forward to the Sangeet (musical evening), another pre wedding ritual and to see what each side had put together."
The couple and their families were responsible for choreographing their performances before showcasing the production in front of friends and relatives on Saturday. But it was worth the wait.
"And what a performance it was," added Chopra. "Each family telling our stories through song and dance, filled with lots of laughter and love. We were both filled with gratitude for the effort, the love and the laughter and will carry the memories of this special evening for the rest of our lives. It is an amazing start to a lifetime of togetherness for our families and friends."
