Aussie star Phil Jamieson cancels tour after fracturing lower back on stage

Former Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson has cancelled the remainder of his Australian tour following a horror on-stage accident.
Jamieson, 49, took to social media to share with fans that an on-stage slip had left him with a fractured back and that he was no longer able to perform as planned.

Sharing the news on Monday, August 10, Jamieson revealed that the accident had happened the past Friday evening.
Slipping on stage, Jamieson’s spine “connected to the drum riser” and he had to stop the gig midway through as he was taken via ambulance to Latrobe Hospital in Victoria.
“I spent most of Friday in emergency getting different tests etc and by 4am I was confirmed to have fractured my L1 (lower back guy), with a prescription of bed rest and a long road to recovery,” he wrote.
“This means, sigh, that the tour is cancelled ... No-one is more bummed about this than me, but I can’t stand up let alone play a gig at the moment.”
Jamieson’s tour was scheduled to continue through to September 1 with stops across the country, supporting his forthcoming album 10Charlie.
Set for release on Friday, August 14, this will be the musician’s second solo project following Grinspoon’s permanent hiatus in 2013. It follows Jamieson’s debut solo album, Somebody Else, released in 2022.
Assuring fans that the album will still be released on Friday, Jamieson shared his disappointment that “we won’t be launch partying together anymore”.
“If you feel like wrapping your earholes around It, I would be grateful. Lots of work went into it and I love it,” he wrote.
“Thanks to all who reached out. News travels fast in this game and I appreciate all the well-wishes and kind offers of help.”

Jamieson gave public thanks to the staff at Latrobe Hospital, saying he was given “elite” care. He gave a particular shoutout to his paramedics, Renae and James, and his discharge nurse, Andrew.
He assured fans that tour venues and ticketing agencies would be in contact with ticket holders to issue refunds, and shared his hopes for a speedy recovery.
“I hope to see you all soon,” he wrote.
