JoJo Siwa says she wasn't invited to this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards: 'I'm not sure why'

JoJo Siwa is setting the record straight on why she didn't attend the 2022 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

In a video shared via Instagram, the 18-year-old singer and dancer revealed that she "simply didn't get an invite" to the annual awards show ceremony. Watch above.

"A lot of you have been asking me why I'm not at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards tonight, and the answer is very simple — I wasn't invited," Siwa said in her video.

"I'm not sure why, but I just didn't get an invite."

The Dance Moms alum reiterated her statement in the caption of her post.

"A lot of you have been asking why I'm not at the Nickelodeon Kid [sic] Choice Awards tonight, I don't want anyone to think it was my choice not to go…. I simply didn't get an invite:(," she wrote.

Siwa's fans were quick to support her in the comments.

"[Their] loss," one user wrote, while another added, "you deserve an invite!"

"Your brand is with Nickelodeon and you were nominated??? That makes no sense that's so sad," one fan commented. (Siwa signed a talent deal with Nickelodeon back in 2017).

Siwa has previously attended the Kids' Choice Awards every year since 2017, except 2020 when the ceremony didn't take place in person due to COVID-19. In 2020, she won the Favourite Social Music Star award. This year, Siwa lost the same category to TikToker Dixie D'Amelio.

In September 2021, Siwa called out the network in a since-deleted tweet, telling fans Nickelodeon was preventing her from performing certain songs on her D.R.E.A.M. tour, which then began in January 2022.

"I go out on tour in January. My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs)… Nickelodeon told me today that I'm not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show," she tweeted at the time, referring to the movie The J Team.

"These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. Does this seem fair???"

She wrote in a follow-up tweet, "There is no reason that this music should not be included."

"Working for a company as a real human being treated as only a brand is fun until it's not," the star said in another message.
