Taylor Swift arrives at the 2026 VMAs after critics trash latest music release
Taylor Swift has fronted up to the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards just days after releasing the extended version of her Life of a Showgirl album!
The star has a lot to celebrate as of late, but critics rained on her parade after they trashed her latest music release.

Swift stepped onto the VMAs red carpet in a Tamara Ralph gown with a sleeveless corset bodice and a draped silver skirt, very befitting of the latest additions to her Showgirl era.
Swift’s latest music video is set to premiere at the event, and she’s also about to make VMAs history.
Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell star in the music video for Swift’s latest release, Patient Zero, with fans eager for the video’s release.
But perhaps the more exciting event of the evening is the inaugural Artist Director Honors being presented to the Cruel Summer singer.
Paramount described the honour as “a new award recognising groundbreaking music artist whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling.”
Ahead of the 2026 ceremony, Swift and Beyoncé both held the record for the highest number of VMA wins with 30 Moon Men each, but this new honour sees Swift’s tally climb to 31, with potential for even more wins throughout the evening.
The Lover singer’s appearance at the event comes just days after announcing and releasing The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore.
Fans began to speculate that Swift had something up her sleeve when she made an appearance in a pre-recorded Law & Order: SVU segment at the 2026 Emmys.

Next came mysterious zeros appearing in her Instagram bio and throughout her song lyrics on Apple Music, then the most telling clue of all, a countdown on her website.
“I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max [Martin] and Shellback, my two collaborators on this album … to reflect and take in how grateful we were,” Swift wrote on Instagram when announcing the deluxe addition of her album on September 23.
“But there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs. I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made.”
The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore included four new songs, Patient Zero, Cleveland!, Pink Clouding andBabylon.
The new tracks were released to a lukewarm reception at best, with the kinder critics describing the music as “superfluous”, and the harsher going as far to call it “AI slop”.

While Vulture insisted that, “Taylor needs to let the Showgirl era die”.
