Moana Hope's girlfriend got labelled her 'friend' at the Brownlows and Twitter wasn't having it
She's the face of the AFL women's league, and last night, Moana Hope unintentionally became the poster girl for marriage equality.
The 29-year-old Collingwood forward arrived at the Brownlow Medal Awards with her model girlfriend Isabella Carlstrom on her arm -- and while the pair looked beyond chic -- it was their undeniable affection for each other as they posed for the cameras that stole the show.
"I couldn't be more excited or more grateful to walk the red carpet with the girl of my dreams," Isabella, who went public with the relationship in April, captioned a pic of the pair on Instagram. "THANK YOU, for you being you and for all the light you've brought to my life."
Moana looked elegant in a plunging pantsuit, while Isabella brought the glamour in a millennial pink Conilio gown.
"I love you Mo Mo and here's to all the good times we have ahead of us! LOVE IS LOVE!" Isabella signed off, adding the hashtags, "#voteyes", "#equality", "#lovealwayswins."
During the red carpet coverage, one particular sports outlet missed the memo that the two were dating and decided to label Isabella as a "friend" in the caption of their photo.
"The word you’re looking for is 'girlfriend'", PopSugar Parenting Editor Erin Riley tweeted alongside a screenshot of the red carpet shot that included the caption, "Moana Hope with her friend Isabella Carlstrom."
As you can imagine, the tweet proceeded to go viral, and many users chimed in with their own two cents.
"'Friend' is this the 1950s, they'll be calling her 'companion' next," one person tweeted.
Another wrote, "Unless the caption was written by my mum who only uses 'friend' or 'companion' to describe any romantic partnering, the author should grow up."
And also, "I don't think some media outlets are ready for 2017."
While Moana has yet to respond to their oversight, she took to Instagram to gush about her girl.
"How bloody beautiful does she look," she captioned a couple pic from the carpet.
