Miley Cyrus is the cover star for Rolling Stone's December issue, and she's laying herself bare for readers.

Not only is she topless on the cover, but she also opened up about a number of personal topics in the accompanying interview, from her sobriety to her marriage to Liam Hemsworth.

Cyrus and Hemsworth dated on-and-off for nine years before marrying in 2018. They split up less than a year later.

The 'Midnight Sky' singer discussed how they tied the knot just one month after she lost her home in a devastating wildfire. In a way, she says, marrying Hemsworth was a lifesaver.

"In a way, it did what I couldn't do for myself," she said of the fire. "It removed me from what no longer was serving its purpose.

"And then as you drown, you reach for that lifesaver and you want to save yourself," she continued. "I think that's really what, ultimately, getting married was for me. One last attempt to save myself."

She says that she acted as if she was extremely happy in that relationship, a feeling cemented by her 2018 track 'Malibu'. But, as she revealed to Rolling Stone, she wasn't as stable as she wanted fans to think.

"I was playing house, which felt really good at the time," she said. "A couple of years ago, it looked like I was living some fairy tale. It really wasn't."

She commented that the media seemed to think she was 'finally' happy and at peace, because of how she looked.

"The media likes to have my hair or what I look like be the point of reference for my sanity. 'Hair's long and blonde, she's sane right now. She cannot be f---ed up on drugs. It's when her hair is painted or she's growing out her armpit hair [that] she's on drugs.'"

Cyrus' newest album, Midnight Sky, was released last week. Fans have speculated that a few of the tracks reference Hemsworth and their marriage, most notably the songs 'WTF Do I Know' and 'Never Be Me'.

She later revealed on the Howard Stern Show that the lyrics:"You want an apology? Not from me / I had to leave you in your own misery / So tell me, baby, am I wrong that I moved on? / And I, and I don't even miss you" were written about Hemsworth.
