'Turn the camera off': Married at First Sight's Craig has a meltdown before the show's first same-sex wedding
It's finally here! Married at First Sight left us on a cliffhanger last night as Craig, a 41-year-old hairdresser, and Andy, a 40-year-old marketing director, took their first steps down the aisle.
And while the show's first-ever same-sex wedding has sparked conversation about marriage equality in Australia, Craig and Andy were flown to Queenstown, New Zealand, for their big day (same-sex marriage became legal in NZ in 2013).
Just like the other weddings on the show, this one had drama galore. Hey, marrying a perfect stranger on TV isn't exactly a non-anxiety-inducing activity. You're allowed to lose it, just a little.
Craig had what he called "a bit of a hissy fit" when he lost his speech, resulting in a tense stand-off with a producer.
"Can you get the camera away?" he asked, with his best man helping him find his speech. "I'm about to get married and, like, all you want is the reaction. Seriously. If you want to see me explode, you're gonna see it. And you don't want it to happen, trust me. Seriously."
Craig locked himself in the bathroom and said "Turn the camera off or I'm gonna walk". Well, the camera was still on – and luckily for everyone, Craig's speech was in his pocket the whole time. PHEW.
The episode ended with moment we've all been waiting for: Andy turning around to meet his groom, who's hopefully less frazzled. We'll see the rest tonight – as well as the aftermath of the weddings of Bella and Michael, and Jess and Dave.
