Mariah Carey's ex Nick Cannon has his say about her New Year's Eve disaster

Mariah Carey's marriage to Nick Cannon may not have lasted, but something tell us they had lots of funny times together.

Nick, 36, stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show for a chat, and naturally, the subject turned to his 47-year-old ex's New Year's Eve disaster.

For those who were busy doing other things on NYE and still haven't seen the viral video, here's the Cliff Notes version of what went down...

During Mariah's New Year's Eve performance of 'Emotions' in Times Square for Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest, a supposedly malfunctioning earpiece, a pre-recorded vocal track and a flustered Mariah made for a very embarrassing live-TV moment.

Mariah's camp suspects sabotage by Dick Clark Productions, and the singer has hired her own team to investigate. Nick, however, suggests it's a conspiracy of another sort.

"I'm a conspiracy theorist," the America's Got Talent host said. "I think the government did that. They set her up. That was a distraction."

Seriously, though, Nick went on to explain the difficulty of performing live on TV, even admitting, "I screw up on America's Got Talent all the time."

He acknowledged that the way she handled the situation was classic Mariah. (Wasn't it, though?)

"I think she got a little flustered, but being the diva that she is, she said, 'I'm just gonna walk around and pose for seven minutes," he said. "And like Ryan Seacrest said, she can do no wrong. She worked through it."

The guy clearly knows his ex-wife very well.

When Ellen DeGeneres commented that the audience didn't seem to mind, Nick dropped another zinger.

"They're like, 'She's amazing. Her lips aren't even moving," he said as the ultimate Mariah-on-NYE pic flashed on the screen.
