Liam Payne’s nine-year-old son Bear set to inherit entirety of late star’s $41m fortune

Liam Payne’s nine-year-old son, Bear, is set to inherit his father’s entire £21.9 million ($41 million) fortune following the One Direction star’s death, the High Court has agreed.

Payne died in October 2024 aged 31, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Payne did not have a will at the time of his death and was not married or in a civil partnership, meaning under UK law his son, Bear Grey Payne, was always set to inherit everything when he turned 18.

Last year, Bear’s mother, singer Cheryl Tweedy, and lawyer Richard Bray were named as administrators allowed to collect and preserve Payne’s estate.

But newly released probate documents lodged with the UK’s High Court detailed how parts of the estate can now be used to benefit his only child before then.

The rest of Payne’s fortune, valued at $41 million, must be placed in a trust for Bear until he is 18.

Under probate rules, anyone seeking to make a claim against the estate has six months to do so.

Bear was born in March 2017, a year after his parents were first linked romantically. They announced their split in July 2018.

Payne had been living with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy in Florida before his death, but she is not entitled to any money as they were not married.

Sources for Cassidy told The Sun she did not intend to make any claim against his estate.

In fact, the influencer had previously defended her bond with Payne and denied she was after his money.

“When people come and point a finger at me saying, ‘You took an allowance and you had living expenses’, or whatever, at the end of the day it’s nobody’s business except for me and Liam,” she told The Sun in 2025.

“I never [asked him for money]. Yeah, it’s upsetting but it’s just about having thick skin and I’m never going to let anybody tell me how my relationship was with Liam.

“The only two people that really know how strong a relationship was are me and Liam.”
