Late One Direction star Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy has revealed she was involved in a car accident.

Cassidy, 26, shared a video on Instagram showing herself getting into the driver's seat of a bright blue Lamborghini Urus, then showing the luxury sports car with damage at the front.

"How it started," she captioned the post, adding: "How it ended."

"Lesson learned don't let your girlfriend drive your brand new car."

It's believed Cassidy was in the car with a female friend Alexandra Gall, who she tagged and who also shared footage of the car, which belonged to Gall's boyfriend.

Gall captioned her video: "Temp plates still on it and everything 😫 I'm so sorry @tsteezylive I'm so glad everyone is okay."

It remains unclear exactly who was driving when the incident took place, but it's believed to be Alexandra.

T Steezy, the boyfriend, shared a video saying it was his girlfriend who crashed the car.

"They got hit by a bus," he said in part of a clip.

Cassidy was the partner of Payne, the English singer who died at the age of 31 in Argentina in October last year after falling from a hotel balcony.

Earlier this month, Cassidy reflected on the one-year anniversary of his passing, sharing a black and white picture of the pair together.

She captioned her Instagram post: "Today marks a full year without you here. I will forever hate goodbyes. I miss you Liam."

A month ago, she defended her resharing of AI images featuring herself and the One Direction singer.

"Please stop judging the way people grieve," she told her audience, telling them she had seen the posts and news articles "bashing me for finding comfort and peace in seeing photos of me and Liam created with AI".

Hailing from Wolverhampton, a city near Birmingham, he went on to find fame in One Direction.

The late star auditioned twice for The X Factor UK before hitting the big time, once in 2008 and again in 2010.

But it was his latter audition at the age of 16 that changed his life forever.
