Latin pop star Gabriel Diniz dies in horrific plane crash en route to girlfriend's birthday
A Latin singer was tragically killed in a plane crash in Brazil.
Brazilian pop star Gabriel Diniz died on Monday when the small plane he was travelling in crashed in the town of Porto do Mato, Estância, on the southern coast of Sergipe, Brazil. He was only 28.
"It is with great pain that we can confirm the death of Gabriel Diniz and the plane's crew," Diniz's management team told Us Weekly, who also reported that Diniz was en route to his girlfriend Karoline Calheiros' birthday party at the time.
According to Brazilian news site G1, three bodies were retrieved from the plane — that of Diniz and two pilots, Linaldo Xavier and Abraão Farias. The plane departed from Salvador-Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport and was scheduled to land at Maceió-Zumbi dos Palmares International Airport, but sadly never reached its destination.
Shortly before his flight, Diniz — who was known for his 2016 hit 'Paraquedas' and his recently released single 'Jenifer' — performed at a concert in Feira de Santana, northwest of Salvador.
"Always a joy to return to Feira de Santana and be greeted with such joy and with so much positive energy thank you for the kindness guys," read an Instagram message, translated to English, he posted hours before his death.
The singer — who was much loved by fans, boasting more than two million YouTube subscribers and 4.5 million Instagram followers — was good friends with soccer player Roberto Firmino, who plays for Premier League club Liverpool. Diniz also performed at Firmion's wedding to model Larissa Pereira in 2017.
"There are things that are hard to believe," Firmino wrote alongside a video of Diniz performing at the reception. "The message of love and joy that you left here on earth was incredible. Glad to have met you. Rest in peace."
