Lady Gaga hospitalised, reveals battle with fibromyalgia: 'I'm in severe pain'

Lady Gaga is taking time outside the spotlight after revealing her battle with a chronic health condition.

The 31-year-old pop star was hospitalised on September 14, one day before she was slated to perform at the Rock in Rio music festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A message on her official Twitter account confirmed she had been "suffering from severe pain that has impacted her ability to perform." The health scare forced Gaga to cancel her performance.

Just days before, the Joanne singer revealed she has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, a chronic illness causing widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, sleep, and memory issues, according to the Mayo Clinic. 

"Thought ice helped #Fibromyalgia. I was wrong & making it worse. Warm/Heat is better. Electric Heated Blanket, Infrared Sauna, Epsom Baths," she tweeted on September 12. She also confirmed that the "chronic illness and pain" she experiences in her upcoming Netflix documentary, Five Foot Two, is caused by fibromyalgia.

On Thursday, Gaga assured her fans that after her hospitalisation, she has been "in good hands" and intends to return soon.

"I was taken to the hospital it's not simply hip pain or wear & tear from tour, I'm in severe pain. I'm in good hands w/ the very best doctors," she wrote. "Brazil, I'm devastated that I'm not well enough 2 come to Rock In Rio. I would do anything 4 u but I have to take care of my body right now."

"I ask for your grace and understanding, and promise that I will come back and perform for you soon."
