Kim Kardashian has paid homage to her idol, Elizabeth Taylor, on the cover of 7Hollywood magazine. The reality star got all glammed up for the shoot to resemble the late screen icon, but some readers have instead accused Kardashian of blackface.

Because of the 39-year-old's noticeably dark appearance on the cover, many have mistaken her for an African-American woman, with some even comparing her to famed drag queen RuPaul and late singer Diahann Carroll.

Writer and culture critic Wanna Thompson also pointed out that this wasn't the first time the Kardashian family have been accused of cultural appropriation.

"The thing with Kim Kardashian and her family's tireless history of cultural appropriation and Blackfishing is that she knows better," Thompson tweeted, referencing the term used when a person is accused of pretending to be black or mixed-race on social media.

"They know better. But they continue to do this because they know outrage sells," Thompson added. "They're able to keep their name relevant by doing things like THIS."

While Kardashian has yet to respond to the backlash, a source defended the star to Page Six, claiming it was all down to the lighting on the shoot.

"It's the lighting that makes her look darker in this specific image," said the source, who was on set. "There are multiple covers and images from this shoot where the lighting looks more natural. People are so quick to find the negative in everything and also often forget that she is of Armenian descent."
