Julianne Moore on the anti-ginger movie industry

Oscar-winner Julianne Moore was once told by a director that she'd miss out on roles because of her red hair. Yep, looks like the joke's on them.

Listen above to the interview with KIIS 1065's Kyle & Jackie O, to hear the auburn-haired beauty downplay the casting advice she received when she was a young actress.

The 54-year-old, who won her first Best Actress Oscar this week for her role in Still Alice, added that the industry is much more open now and that redheads are actually "taking over".

She then listed off her fellow Oscar-nominated actresses "Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone", joking that "there's so many of us these days!"

The star also addressed gender pay inequality in the film industry, adding that she agrees with Patricia Arquette's moving Oscars speech on the topic.

"Obviously it's still not happening," Julianne said. "For me personally, it's difficult to complain because I have a fantastic job and I'm making a very good living off doing it. But I think there are definitely situations where people feel they are not valued as much."
