Julianne Hough talks about Ryan Seacrest split for the first time: 'I needed to be perfect'

Footloose actress Julianne Hough has revealed what went wrong in her three-year relationship with American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.
The 25-year-old has reflected on her dating history to Redbook magazine, including her split with Ryan in March 2013.
"Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right," Julianne told the mag. "I had one foot out because I didn't want to get hurt. And I didn't say what was on my mind because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect."
"But now I'm not holding anything back, because I'd rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love. If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?"
Take that, Seacrest! At the time of her break-up with Ryan, 39, sources claimed it was their "hectic work schedules" that tore them apart… but obvs that wasn't the only reason.
Julianne is now all loved-up again with her new boyfriend of a few months, Canadian ice hockey player Brooks Laich.
Before meeting him, Julianne "was seeing a couple of people", but the romances were "going nowhere". A co-star from her upcoming thriller Curve introduced Julianne and Brooks and they hit it off from there.
"It couldn't have been a better time," Julianne added. "We've been open and honest from day one."
Ryan, meanwhile, reportedly dated 28-year-old Sports Illustrated model Dominique Piek months after his split from Julianne. He's now dating model/fitness trainer Shayna Taylor, 23. Gee, he likes his twentysomethings...
