Jennifer Aniston opens up about misconception that she can't keep a man: 'I am not heartbroken'

Jennifer Aniston is setting the record straight about her personal life in her most candid interview yet.

Opening up in the September issue of InStyle, the 49-year-old actress said she was tired of the misconceptions about her, predominately orchestrated by the media. From the unlucky-in-love tag she has been given due to her unsuccessful marriages to actors Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux, to the idea that she has always chosen career over family, Aniston is calling out the fake news.

"It's pretty crazy," she told the magazine. "The misconceptions are 'Jen can’t keep a man,' and 'Jen refuses to have a baby because she's selfish and committed to her career.' Or that I'm sad and heartbroken.

"First, with all due respect, I'm not heartbroken," she added, referring to her February split from Theroux following two years of marriage. "And second, those are reckless assumptions."

One of those assumptions is the notion that Aniston has never wanted children. Not so, she clarified in the interview. In fact, she even hinted that a health issue could be the reason she didn't start a family with either Pitt, 54, or Theroux, 46.

"No one knows what's going on behind closed doors. No one considers how sensitive that might be for my partner and me. They don't know what I've been through medically or emotionally," she said. "There is a pressure on women to be mothers, and if they are not, then they're deemed damaged goods. Maybe my purpose on this planet isn't to procreate. Maybe I have other things I'm supposed to do?"

In the interview -- which was conducted by Jimmy Kimmel's wife Molly McNearney, one of Aniston's good friends -- the actress said that while she turns a blind eye to what's being written about her in the media, sometimes it still cuts deep.

"There are definitely moments of not being balanced and poised, but I do that all in my own personal space," Aniston revealed. "For the most part, I can sit back and laugh at the ridiculous headlines because they have gotten more and more absurd.

"I guess they're feeding into some sort of need the public has, but I focus on my work, my friends, my animals, and how we can make the world a better place. That other stuff is junk food that needs to go back in its drawer."
