Jane Fonda: I was raped and sexually abused

Jane Fonda has revealed that she was raped and sexually abused as a child.

In an interview for The Edit, Jane, 79 went on to tell the fellow-Oscar winning actress Brie Larson that she was fired for not sleeping with her boss.

“To show you the extent to which a patriarchy takes a toll on females; I’ve been raped, I’ve been sexually abused as a child, and I’ve been fired because I wouldn’t sleep with my boss,” the Hollywood icon revealed. “I always thought it was my fault; that I didn’t do or say the right thing."

The mother-of-three said she knows girls who don't even know they're victims of rape.

“They think, ‘It must have been because I said ‘no’ the wrong way,'” Jane told Brie. "One of the great things the women’s movement has done is to make us realize that [rape and abuse] is not our fault. We were violated, and it’s not right.”

This is not the first time the legendary actress has spoken openly about rape.

In September 2014, at a fundraising event for a rape victims' charity she revealed her mother had been sexually abused, eventually committing suicide when Jane was just 12-years-old.

She said that sexual violence is 'epidemic' vowing to support "the Rape Treatment Center for the rest of my life."
