James Blunt: Ed Sheeran lied about Princess Beatrice slicing him with a sword

Have we all been duped?

James Blunt claims pal Ed Sheeran made up the entire amazing story of Princess Beatrice slicing his face with a sword at a party.

The legend goes that Beatrice tried to 'knight' James at a November bash but while swinging back the sword she caught Ed's face, resulting in a hospital trip and stitches.

But now, James says the entire anecdote was just a figment of their imaginations, and the 28-year-old princess wasn't involved at all.

"Ed was drunk, messing around, and he cut himself. We made a fancy story up; people fell for it. It was very embarrassing," James, 43, told ShortList. "All of it [was made up]. Apart from the actual scar." 

In fact, James calls us all a bunch of fools for believing the fantastic tale.

"It’s bizarre that people fell for it," he said. "I blame [Ed]. He must be desperate – he's trying to sell records."

James admits that he did at least witness 26-year-old Ed's self-inflicted wound but insists he wasn't the culprit.

"Yeah, but I didn't do it! He cut himself and I just patched him up," James said. "It's made him look prettier."
