George Clooney is definitely Team Meryl.
The charismatic actor weighed in on Donald Trump's tweet calling Meryl Streep "one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood" after she gave a passionate Golden Globes speech criticising the controversial US president-elect.
"I've always said that about Meryl," George, 55, joked to People at a charity event Monday night. "She's maybe the most overrated actress of all-time.
"She and I worked together on [2009's] Fantastic Mr. Fox as husband and wife and I will tell you even as a fox, a female fox, she's overrated."
As for 70-year-old Trump, George quipped, "Aren’t you supposed to be running the country?"
Meryl, a three-time Oscar winner and 19-time nominee, had one of the Globes' most memorable moments this year when she lambasted Trump without ever directly saying his name.
"This instinct to humiliate, when it's modelled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody's life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing," she said while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
"Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose."
