Game of Thrones' season-six trailer brings on the sex, violence, dragons…and Jon Snow

After countless teasers and months of mystery over the fate of a certain major character, HBO has dropped the first official trailer for Game of Thrones' upcoming sixth season.

Finally, some answers…or maybe even more questions. But first thing first, is Jon Snow (Kit Harington) dead or alive?

Set to an acoustic cover of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game', the clip opens with a very dead-looking Snow.

That must be the scene Kit Harrington, who plays Snow, was seen filming for the new series in September, causing rumours that his character had somehow survived a brutal apparent murder at the end of season five.

From there, it's full-on carnage, as Peter Dinklage's Tyrion Lannister warns: "You're in a great game now and the great game is terrifying."

In the trailer, we also get a glimpse of Lena Headey and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's characters, who are up to their old incestuous ways. Eww.

Meanwhile, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is covered in filth, Arya (Maisie Williams) is blind and everyone else just looks mega-stressed.

Game of Thrones season six premieres in Australia on Foxtel's Showcase channel on April 25.
