Eminem announces his first new album in four years

Eminem has announced the release of his first album in four years, titled The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), to be released this summer in the US.

The rapper confirmed the news through a trailer he released on Instagram, which also aired just before his appearance during the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit.

The title of the album refers to the 51-year-old rapper's alter ego, which has been part of his image since his 1997 album Slim Shady EP and The Slim Shady LP in 1999.

The trailer begins with a fictional reporter announcing the death of Slim Shady.

"Through his complex and oft-criticised, tongue-twisting rhymes, the blond anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies," says the reporter as he walks through a crime scene.

Rapper 50 Cent makes a cameo in the video, saying in a testimonial: "He's not a friend, he's a psychopath."

The reporter adds: "The same rude lyrics and controversial antics may have ultimately led to his demise. Join me as we recreate the events that led to the murder of Slim Shady."

A person with a mosaic over his face is also seen in the video, asking: "So who killed Slim Shady?"

They later add, "I knew it was just a matter of time for Slim", as they leaned over to grab a water bottle, revealing that it was Eminem speaking all along.

Fans swarmed the comments theorising about the new album.

"If this is the name of the new album it's gonna be hard," said one fan.

"You can't kill a spirit even if you try to," added another.

One frantic fan asked, "'THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY' wait what the actual f---?!!! This can't be the last album right? RIGHT?!?"

This is the rapper's first album in four years, having last released his album Music to Be Murdered By as a surprise in January 2020.
