'Just can't do it right now': Dolly Parton reveals heartbreaking career decision in the wake of her husband's death

Dolly Parton has shared some heartbreaking news with fans.

In March, Parton announced her partner of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, had died aged 82.

Now, the singer says she is putting her music career on hold as she comes to terms with her loss.

Appearing on the Khloe in Wonderland podcast with Khloe Kardashian, Parton said when it comes to finishing the songs she has started writing, she "just can't do it right now".

"I got so many other things that I can't afford the luxury of, you know, of getting emotional right now," she said.

The singer said although she is "coming up with such wonderful and beautiful ideas", she just doesn't have the capacity to work on them at the moment.

Following Dean's death, Parton released a song in his honour titled If You Hadn't Been There.

She announced the release on Instagram, sharing an image of her with her arms wrapped around Dean.

"I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old," she captioned the post.

"We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end.

"They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him."

Parton said that her husband's death has definitely "stalled" her a little bit she would happily write "something else though if it comes".

The singer shared news of Dean's death via a statement from her team shared on Instagram, including a quote from Parton herself.

"Carl and I spent many wonderful years together," she shared.

"Words can't do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy."
