Karl Stefanovic shares hilarious new home-made chat show from self-isolation

Karl Stefanovic unveiled a temporary cure to lockdown boredom on Friday night via his Instagram page: The Weekly Tonight Show (with Karlos), a new spoof talk-show put together with friends as they all work remotely during the coronavirus crisis.

"It may not be the best show in the history of the world, but it's a show for you, at home on a Friday night," he said to his 252,000 fans and followers.

"I know you're probably all cooped up in isolation – we're all in this together, aren't we."

Broadcasting "live from his rented mansion" barefoot in tee-shirt and shorts, tinnie in hand, Stefanovic traded jokes and insults with "guests" around the country, swapping his usual Today Show persona for a more relaxed (and perhaps less safe-for-work) side.

The nine-and-a-half minute episode kicked off with Karl's mum, Jenny, sharing remote tech tips for the over-70s – via a FaceTime call that showed mostly just her neck.

Stefanovic also introduced 'Karl's Klassifieds', a competition shouting out especially creative ads from small businesses doing it tough during the pandemic

Radio host Ryan 'Fitzy' Fitzgerald joined to present his 'album of the week' – and give another song a pretty scathing two-word review.

Melbourne music promoter James Young presented sporting highlights – his lack of sporting knowledge turning out not to be a problem: "In sport today, absolutely nothing going on."

Even Stefanovic's dog, Chance, made a cameo, wandering on-camera to veer dangerously close to the edge of the roof.

Jokes (and mandatory Joe Exotic cameo) aside, the show finished on a heartfelt note:

"I want to thank the doctors and nurses on the front line. I hope you get a break, if you can," Stefanovic said.

"Australia loves you. You're our front line, and we couldn't do it without you."

"Up yours, COVID."
