Bryan Adams speaks on rumoured romantic relationship with Princess Diana

Some celebrities play Andy Cohen's 'Plead the Fifth' game and actually plead the fifth. But not Bryan Adams.

On Monday, when the '90s rockstar appeared on Cohen's show, Watch What Happens Live, he was more than happy to talk about his personal life. Adams even addressed the long-running speculation that he had an affair with the late Princess Diana.

"There are many rumours that you and Princess Diana were once romantically involved and her butler said that he used to sneak you into Kensington Palace," said Cohen. "How would you characterise your relationship with Princess Diana?"

Rather than refuse to answer the question, as the rules of the game allowed, 58-year-old Adams spilled the deets.

"Great friends," he said. "And she didn't sneak me in, I would just roll up."

Naturally, Cohen, 50, wanted to know more and cheekily asked, "Friends with benefits?"

"Um, she was just... we were good friends," Adams insisted.

The affair rumours were brought back to the foreground in March when Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, appeared on the Australian edition of I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and told his fellow castaway LIsa Oldfield of the affair.

"Yeah, Diana and Bryan Adams hooked up in the mid-'90s," the Real Housewives of Sydney star told KIIS FM. "Apparently, Paul used to sneak him into Kensington Palace in the boot of his car."

In 2003, Adams' longtime former girlfriend, Bond girl Cecilie Thomsen, reportedly told Danish magazine Billed Bladet that she knew the pair fooled around in 1996, one year before the princess' death.

"I knew Diana had an affair with Bryan," said the 43-year-old Danish actress. "Bryan knew Paul Burrell very well and Paul was part of the inner circle around Bryan, and he also introduced him to Diana. The first time Bryan met Diana I wasn't invited.

"Ours was a stormy relationship and Bryan's affair with Diana didn't make it easier."

It appears Adam has long had a crush on the princess. More than 10 years before their rumoured affair, the Canadian singer wrote a song titled 'Diana,' about a lady he dubbed the "queen" of his dreams who drove him "wild."
