Terri Irwin responds to daughter Bindi Irwin's pregnancy announcement: 'Wish that Steve was here'

Terri Irwin has responded to her daughter Bindi Irwin's pregnancy announcement, saying she wished her late husband Steve Irwin was around for the special moment.

Terri, 56, who was thrilled by her 22-year-old daughter's happy news, acknowledged that Steve "would be so proud".

"This is the best day ever! I am over the moon to announce that @BindiIrwin and @chandlerpowell9 are going to have a baby! Words cannot express the love that is filling my heart," Terri wrote on her personal Twitter page on August 11. "While I wish that Steve was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud."

Bindi revealed she was expecting her first child with Chandler in an Instagram post on August 11.

"Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021," she captioned a photo taked at Australia Zoo. "Chandler and I are proud to announce that we're expecting! It's an honour to share this special moment in our lives with you. Though I'm still in my first trimester, we really want you to be part of our journey from the beginning of this new life chapter.

"We couldn't wait to share the news as this beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives. Your support means the world to us. Please let me know your best advice and send good vibes & prayers to our little sweetheart. Love & light."

The couple got married on March 25 in an intimate ceremony due to the coronavirus wedding restrictions.

"We held a small ceremony and I married my best friend," she shared on social media at the time. "There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now."

Steve Irwin died on September 4, 2006, leaving behind Terri and their two children, Bindi and Robert.
