Anthony Callea slashes his index finger in nasty kitchen knife accident

Anthony Callea kills it on stage, but in the kitchen? Not so much.

The Australian Idol alum suffered a nasty injury as he attempted to cater an event for loved ones on Wednesday. He revealed that he had accidentally slashed his index finger with a knife, sharing a photo of the bandaged digit on Instagram.

"Note to self, you can sing but not cater.... in future, don't say you'll cater, because look what happens!" he captioned the pic before adding no-deal emojis next to the words, "Callea and Knives."

Although it's not clear what event the singer was hosting, it's possible it was a gathering for his 36th birthday yesterday. His good friend Alex Fevola -- who last month gave birth to her fourth child with former AFL player Brendan Fevola -- was one of the first to greet Callea on Instagram.

"Happiest of Birthdays to this legend Anthony Callea. One of the kindest and most thoughtful people I've ever known," she wrote, to which he replied, "Thank you stunner, love you to bits."

Birthdays and bandages aside, it was business as usual for the singer. Just one day after his injury he was back to work, flying from Melbourne to Sydney to perform on the TODAY show.

During his guest spot, he revealed he'll perform at Vision Australia's Carols By Candlelight on Christmas Eve for the 15th consecutive year. Joining him will be husband Tim Campbell.

"Christmas Day is basically a hangover for us," Callea said when asked by entertainment editor Richard Wilkins what their plans were for the holiday. "We keep drinking until about four o'clock in the morning, so the party's at our house."

Just stay away from those knives, though...
