Amber Heard files brief listing 16 grounds of appeal she will launch against Johnny Depp

Amber Heard has filed a brief listing 16 grounds of appeal she will launch against her ex-husband Johnny Depp, four months after a jury awarded him $US10.3 million ($14.9 million) in damages.

The brief is Heard's next step in the appeal process after she was found guilty of defaming Depp following the publication of a 2018 opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post.

Heard's brief reportedly cites lack of "clear and convincing evidence" for actual malice as one of the grounds for appeal, among others, reports Vanity Fair.

Per the publication, the Aquaman actress has also claimed some evidence presented at trial should not have been allowed, while other evidence that was not admitted should have been admitted.

This reportedly includes communications with medical professionals.

Heard also argues Depp and his attorneys confused the court by using statements she had made from prior to the op-ed's publication against her.

She claims this led jurors to believe she was on trial for statements she had made prior to the 2018 publication of the article.

"The trial court erred in allowing Mr Depp to argue or suggest at trial that the jury could award damages based on statements or conduct occurring prior to the publication of the challenged op-ed," the filing reads.

Heard was awarded a minor sum of $US2 million ($2.8 million) in damages at the end of her and Depp's exhaustive trial in June

Yet Heard has pushed to appeal the verdict, insisting the trial process was flawed.

Much of the testimony during the famed six-week trial focused on Heard's claims she had been physically and sexually abused by Depp at least a dozen times.

Depp continually denied Heard's allegations and insisted he never hit the actress and that she was the abuser.
