Sources close to the family confirmed to TMZ that the Carter patriarch died in his Florida home on Tuesday evening, but there are very few details about the cause of death.

"I am heartbroken to share the news that our father, Robert, passed away last night…" 37-year-old Nick tweeted on Wednesday. "While we learn more about the cause of death, and begin the grieving process, we ask that our privacy be respected at this difficult time."

Aaron, 29, tweeted a heartfelt message along with the last photo he had of his father.

"My heart is completely shattered, the singer wrote. "I’m in shock and I loved my dad so much. #RIP DADDY I Love You."

Later, he shared another tribute on Instagram. "My heart is broken," he wrote. "We are so hurt we lost you poppa way too soon. You were never human to me, you were always my real life superhero."

This isn't the only tragedy for the Carter family. In 2012, Nick and Aaron's sister Leslie passed away at the age of 25, after a drug overdose.

Following the launch of both Nick and Aaron's pop music careers, the family entered the reality TV realm with the 2006 show House of Carters.

Nick, Aaron, Leslie, Bob, and their two other siblings — Angel, 29 and Bobbie Jean, 35 — were featured on the show.

Bob is survived by his wife Ginger Elrod, and Nick, Aaron, and their two other siblings, Angel and Bobbie Jean.
