Chris Hemsworth on film weight loss: 'It was the hungriest I have ever been. There was an insanity'

Amy Nelmes Bissett

It should be a crime against humanity for Chris Hemsworth to lose his trademark ripped bod but it happened. *cue real life tears*

The 32-year-old drastically lost weight for his new flick In The Heart of the Sea, which is a take on Moby Dick, a novel by Herman Melville.

For those who missed out on English Lit school certificate, it's a real-life tale which follows the doomed crew of whaling ship Essex after it was hit by massive whale.

For the stranded at sea scenes, Chris dropped his calories intake to 500, which is the equivalent to one meal a day. Not a lot when he usually eats 2,500 calories.

Chris told TheFIX how the fine line between acting and reality became blurred during 14-hour filming days at sea, on a hard board with "no padding" on his butt.

In our interview, he also admits to feeling "jealous" when his actress wife, Elsa Pataky pashes other men in films and how he is keen to get back into TV.

In The Heart of the Sea hits Australian cinemas from December 3.
