Charlize Theron adopts a daughter…just months after splitting with Sean Penn

Hollywood actress Charlize Theron is now a mum-of-two after adopting her second child, a daughter called August.

The 39-year-old adopted the African-American child – who was born in the U.S – in July, who will be the sibling of Charlize's adopted four-year-old son, Jackson.

It comes after she called off her engagement to Sean Penn in early June, following a loved-up appearance for the couple at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sources stated that Charlize – who had been working with Penn as he directed her in new flick The Last Face  - ended the 18-month romance suddenly before avoiding "his calls and texts".

Previously, sources close to the former couple had said there had been tensions over Sean, 54, not wanting to play the father role again to Jackson.

He has two children with former wife, Robin Wright, who are now in their 20s.

It's perhaps telling that just two months after their split,  the South African-born beauty has extended her family without Penn in sight.
