Boston Dynamics robot opens the door to our nightmares
In a few decades, when humans rise again to the surface to survey the damage from the apocalyptic war with sentient technology, the phrase "Boston Dynamics" is bound to be uttered in scornful tones.
For years the technology company has been delighting and outraging us with their YouTube videos showing them kicking robots, hitting them with sticks, and generally being mean.
And now engineers at Boston Dynamics have found the missing link between robots being our servants, and robots being our masters.
They've taught a robot how to open doors.
Because these mad scientists haven't realised what happens when you teach your creation how to open doors.
Have they not seen Jurassic Park?
Once a robot knows how to open doors, there's no stopping them.
Frankly, we should have decided technology was finished after we figured out how to put wheels on suitcases.
Boston Dynamics describes their creation as "a nimble robot that handles objects, climbs stairs, and will operate in offices, homes and outdoors".
So it's engineered to go pretty much everywhere.
Which explains why it will be showing up in our nightmares tonight.
