Artist's optical illusions has us questioning reality

Can you tell which of these objects are real?

Artist Howard Lee's compilation of his illustrations paired with their real-like counterparts is doing our collective head in.

These realistic pictures are perfectly camouflaged; making you question what is real, what is fake and, eventually, your entire existence (depending on what kind of a day you're having).

Mostly involving food and shiny surfaces, the illustrations are astounding and highlight the sheer inferiority of our own drawing skills.

"The drawing process can take anything from two to 20 hours," Lee told Pickle.

"Simple things like fruit take little time.

"Manmade objects like perfume bottles with logos take a very long time!"

Lee's optical illusion videos have earned him hundreds of thumbs up on his YouTube channel, Facebook page and Twitter account.

His talent even has some questioning whether he cut off his own thumb.

If you didn't know he needed his thumbs to grip his pencils (and presumably other things vital to human life like hot chips and television remotes) you'd swear he cut it off.

Thankfully, he didn't.

"The thumb chop video was fairly simple," he assures us.

"I drew the thumb to look the same, folded my own thumb back under my hand and filmed the chop in stop frame - adding a little more fake blood to each frame so that sped up it's a sort of explosion!"

Simple, yet effective.
