WA transport websites shut after hack bid

A hacking attempt has forced Western Australia's Public Transport Authority to disable several of its websites.

Staff detected the hacking attempt to PTA firewalls at about 9am on Thursday morning and decided to shut down its online systems, including six websites, in a bid to prevent a breach.

PTA spokesman David Hynes said emails were also affected, but technicians were working through the Easter long weekend to restore the websites before Tuesday. The main Transperth website had been restored by midday on Thursday, but others including School Bus Services, Right Track and Get on Board might still be down next week.
