Testosterone in womb may affect your face

The amount of testosterone you're exposed to in the womb could affect how masculine your face looks, West Australian researchers say.

Telethon Kids Institute researchers examined testosterone concentration data taken from newborn umbilical cord blood more taken 20 years ago and compared the results to 183 male and female adults using 3D technology.

The researchers found higher levels of testosterone led to more masculine facial features later in life including wider noses, eyes and foreheads.

The findings are the first stage in a broader study and the next step for researchers will be to test children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to see if they have more masculine facial features.
