Thousands of St George customers have been left furious and without cash over the long weekend after an outage brought down the bank's online, mobile and telephone banking options.

Some report internet banking has been down for more than 24 hours, inconveniencing customers trying to transfer funds.

Bank of Melbourne and BankSA customers have also been affected.

St George, which is owned by Westpac, said in a statement it would not be opening branches to make up for the outage.

"The problem has arisen following a regular upgrade to the bank's computer systems over the weekend," St George's website states when attempting to log-in to internet banking.

"We are currently working to restore banking services as quickly as possible and apologise to customers for the inconvenience that this incident has caused."

Customers have taken to St George's Facebook page vowing to quit the bank after the long weekend.

"All plans now cancelled for this evening as we have no access to funds without internet or phone banking....cheers St George," wrote Jules Lewis.
