Spaceship tucked away inside Aussie garage

Australia’s space-race game has just been boosted, with an inter-planetary craft created inside a Melbourne garage.

Filmmaker Andrew Jaksch hand-built the impressive looking set out the back of his family’s Balwyn North home in the city’s east especially for his new short-film, Thalamos.

“Everybody in the neighbourhood knows about it, and of course we have had a bit of fun with it,” Mr Jaksch told 9NEWS.

He revealed the backyard spaceship, which has displaced his beloved car, is mostly made of “rubbish”.

“Bits and pieces from building sites and around the traps…hard rubbish from around the streets … and people giving me bit and pieces.”

While Thalamos takes place in Mars, there is no computer generated imagery in the film, and the inter-galactic scenes were all filmed in Victoria.

The sci-fi epic already been shown at multiple overseas film festivals, garnering the Emerging Voice award at the 43^rd Boston sci-fi film festival.
