A US mother has discovered a way to get her children to do chores even when she's not at home, using a savvy incentive method.

The unnamed mum left a note on their fridge letting them know that if they wanted internet access, they would have to tidy the kitchen.

"Today's WiFi password can be unlocked by texting a photo of a clean kitchen to mom," the note posted to image sharing site Imgur read.

"Said photograph MUST contain one box of crackers on the counter by the stove (to prevent re-using any previous photos)."

The photo has since been viewed more than 200,000 times in less than a day.

Plenty of users weighed in with "back in my day" anecdotes.

"My mom and dad would say clean the kitchen. I would clean the kitchen because I enjoyed not having a spanked ass," a user named ragingcatfish wrote.

"My parents were like 'clean your room or sleep outside on the bench'," wrote another user.

Meanwhile, several readers were quick to point out how resetting the router would allow the kids to change the WiFi password themselves.
