Mastercard has today unveiled a new logo to coincide with the launch of Masterpass.

Notable changes to the brand icon include alterations to the “Mastercard” text, now black, and more streamlined.

The text now sits below, instead of above, the interlocking circles. Eagle-eyes will notice the lack of stripes between the circles.

The logo change will be rolled out worldwide, and ties in with the launch of Masterpass, designed to rival Apple Pay.

The modified Masterpass will work across multiple devices and feature contactless payment.

Shoppers will be able to pay by simply raising their device to a compatible terminal.

Australia is expected to receive the Masterpass expansion in 2017.
