The childhood dream many of us had of owning a jetpack could come true for those rich enough to afford it with a Dubai company hinting they may be sold from as early as next year.

XDubai this week released a spectacular video of jetpack creator and Swiss ex-fighter pilot Yves Rossy flying in formation with aerobatics champion Veres Zoltán.

The video was uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday and has already attracted more than 668,000 views.

At footage ends with the mysterious message, “2015” filling the screen.

Little is known about the company XDubai, other than that it has a website with a static splash page.

Mr Rossy, who is better known as Jetman, invented his jetpack prototype in 2006 and, according to his website, became the first person ever to fly a "jet-propelled wing".

The jetpack can fly for 10 minutes at a time and stores fuel in its wings.

Landings can still be problematic however, with the jetpack required to be turned off and the rider parachuting down.
