How to play with portrait mode on iPhone 15

Apple unleashed a suite of new features for the world to play with on iPhone 15.

Some are very niche and others fundamentally change apps I use every day. 

If, like me, you're a fan of Apple's portrait mode, one subtle change is going to save you time and space in your camera roll. 

You no longer need to take a standard shot and a separate photo in portrait mode.

The quickest way to turn any photo into a portrait shot is to:

1. Select the photo you want to edit 
2. Tap 'LIVE' in the top right corner
3. Select portrait from the drop down tab 

Most of the time this automatic update looks great but if you need more control, here's how to dive deeper into the settings. 

1. Select the photo you want to edit.

In Apple's Photos app, select the image you want to tweak. 

In the top right corner of the screen you should now see the word 'Edit.'

Tap Edit to start.

2. Dive into 'Portrait' settings

You'll have options galore to enhance your photo at the bottom of the screen. 

The 'Portrait' settings are to the far left of those five tabs.

Tap that circle with a cursive 'f' in it to make the adjustments. 

3. Select your subject

Apple's software does a pretty good job of knowing what you want to be in focus. 

To remove any doubt, tap on the face of the person or pet you want to highlight. 

A faint yellow square should appear. 

Make sure it's in the right spot and proceed to the next step. 

4. Slide to blur

Above the tabs at the bottom of your screen should be slider. 

It looks like small vertical lines running from left to right. 

Slide the bar from left to right to find the amount of blur you like.  

5. Save

Hit the yellow 'Done' button in the top right corner of the screen. 

This does not save a copy of your image but overwrites the original. 

Thankfully, you can jump back into the editing tab at any time and reverse the changes you make if you change your mind.
