First case of Google glasses addiction reported

Doctors have reported the first case of internet addiction disorder brought on by overusing Google Glass.

The patient, a 31-year-old US navy serviceman, had been using the eyewear device for 18 hours a day, removing it only to sleep and wash.

He had even begun experiencing his dreams as if viewed through the device's small grey window, The Guardian reports.

The patient checked himself into a Navy rehab facility for alcohol addiction in September 2013.

But when the facility, called the Substance Abuse and Recovery Program, took away all his electronic devices, the man began suffering unexpected withdrawal symptoms.

He reportedly became irritable, had a hard time focusing and repeatedly placed his index finger to the right side of his face as if trying to turn on Glass.

"People used to believe alcoholism wasn't a problem. It's just going to take a while for us to realise that this is real."
