Drone footage shows Syrian city devastated by war

Drone footage has revealed post-apocalyptic scenes of devastation left in the aftermath of war on a Syrian city, with countless rows of destroyed homes where more than 900,000 people once lived.

Homs is the third largest city in Syria and was an industrial centre and a transport hub before it became the battleground for the Syrian civil war.

The video published by a website affiliated with Russian state broadcaster VGTRK showed the city now deserted and littered with debris from collapsed buildings.

At one point three children can be seen waving at the camera while standing amongst the rubble.

The drone camera also showed an infamous part of the city where radicals committed mass executions of many Christians and Muslims who disagreed with their extreme ideologies.

Homs was dubbed the capital of the revolution against the Assad regime in 2011 which put the city through heavy conflict that lasted three years.

It has been estimated that nine million Syrians have fled their homes since the civil war began in March 2011.
