$15.7 billion bank topples Woolworths as Australia's most valuable brand

Australia's most valuable and strongest brands for 2025 have been announced by Brand Finance.

A bank dethroned supermarket giant Woolworths for first place with a $15.7 billion value.

It comes after a year of economic pressures, industry dynamics and challenges.

10. Atlassian Corporation

Atlassian Corporation came in 10th place with a brand value of $5.5 billion.

It jumped up two places in the list after placing 12th place with a $4.4 billion brand value last year. 

The online software company is known for its programs Jira, Confluence and Trello.

9. Macquarie Bank

9. Macquarie Bank

Macquarie Bank came in at 9th for Australia's most valuable brands.

It has a $5.7 billion brand value, up by 8 per cent from the previous year's $4.9 billion.

The bank underwent major changes as it moved to fully digital operations.

8. Bunnings

Australia's most popular hardware chain, Bunnings, had a brand value of $6.8 billion.

It maintained its 8th-place position from last year but brought up last year's brand value of $6 billion by 6 per cent.

Brand Finance attributed this to strong sales growth and supply chain enhancements.

BHP dropped from 5th place at $8.8 billion last year to the 7th most valuable brand at $7.3 billion this year.

The mining company, alongside Rio Tinto, is currently facing a class action lawsuit alleging harassment of its female workers.

6. NAB

NAB went from a brand value of $6.5 billion last year to $7.4 billion this year, securing the sixth place.

The big four bank primarily services Australia and New Zealand but has other businesses around the world.

It has more than 35,000 employees and 10 million customers.

5. Coles

Coles' brand value of $9.1 billion last year dropped by 14 per cent to $8.4 billion this year.

Brand Finance attributed this decline to allegations of misleading prices and reputational challenges.

Coles and Woolworths are both fighting these claims, brought forward by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, in court.

ANZ increased its brand value from $8.1 billion last year to $8.8 billion this year.

The 1 per cent rise brought the bank up to fourth place.

The industry faced economic challenges, that ANZ weathered due to its acquisition of Suncorp Bank.

3. Telstra

Major telecommunications company Telstra came in third place, with a brand value of $12.1 billion.

This value was down 7 per cent from the previous year, despite the $12.1 billion figure remaining the same.

Brand Finance said although its value decreased, Telstra's brand strength resulted in modest growth in its segments except for its enterprise business unit.

2. Woolworths

Woolworths' title of Australia's most valuable brand last year was toppled this year as the supermarket giant faced allegations of misleading prices.

It dropped to second place, with a brand value of $12.7 billion. 

Last year, its brand value sat at $14.2 billion.
