Apple to replace pistol emoji with green water gun

Apple has announced it will remove the controversial gun emoji in its next update, replacing it with a more playful green water gun.
The swap is set for the company’s iOS 10 update.
It will be one of a few changes to the app, which will now also represent female athletes, a female police officer, detective and construction worker and the inclusion of a gay pride flag.
There will also be a new addition to the set of ‘family’ emoji’s with a new option for single parents.
The pistol emoji included in the emoji keyboard has gotten a number of people in trouble.
A man in France was sentenced to three months in prison after a court ruled sending the pistol emoji to his girlfriend in a text message constituted a death threat, the Telegraph reported.
A teenager in Brooklyn was similarly arrested, NY Daily reported, after he allegedly made threats toward police on Facebook using the pistol emoji which made officers “fear for their safety” according to a criminal complaint.
Earlier this year Apple also led a decision to stop the inclusion of a rifle in the emoji collection.
