'Zombie' savings formally killed off

The federal government has formally dumped controversial "zombie" savings measures first flagged in Tony Abbott's much-maligned 2014 budget.

Social Services Minister Christian Porter on Wednesday removed four pieces of legislation from the parliamentary agenda, including the planned crackdown on paid parental leave "double-dippers" and changes to some family payments.

Labor, vehemently opposed to the measures, accused the coalition of wasting the Australian public's time in trying to pursue the unfair cuts.
