Popular food review website Zomato leaves Australia

Zomato has left the Australian market to now only provide its popular food review and delivery services to India and the United Arab Emirates.

The Indian-founded restaurant aggregator allowed customers to search and discover eateries, find menus and write and view user-given reviews.

But its website now says "goodbye Sydney" and is no longer accessible.

The company has not only ceased operations in Australia it has also pulled out of all other countries it was used in including the UK, New Zealand, Indonesia, Brazil and more.

Now it is only available in India where it was founded and the United Arab Emirates.

Leaving the Australian market came after the company struggled through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zomato announced in 2020 that it would withdraw from Australia but the website and reviews remained accessible.

"We have decided to shut our local operations in these markets," a Zomato spokesperson said at the time.

"While we are grateful for all the love we have garnered from our users, restaurant community, and all other partners, we are realigning our market strategy as per our long-term vision."

Zomato was launched by Deepinder Goyal and Mohit Gupta in 2008.
