Young man hospitalised after violent carjacking in Melbourne's north

A group of offenders are on the run after a violent carjacking in Melbourne's north.

A Toyota Prado was stopped at a red light near the intersection of Findon and Epping Roads in Epping about 1am when a group approached the car.

Police believe the offenders had been trailing the Toyota in a separate vehicle before they demanded the driver get out of the car, then assaulted him.

The offenders fled in the Toyota and left the victim, a 20-year-old Mill Park man, at the intersection.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Toyota is yet to be located and the offenders remain on the run.
