A seven-year-old boy has been winched to safety after falling almost 30 metres down a waterfall north-east of Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to Mill Track at Wilhelmina Falls in Murindindi just after 11am today, finding the young boy still in the water at the base of the drop.

SES crews, police and paramedics worked for more than two hours before he was rescued about 1.30pm.
