Young boxer arrested after double shooting

An aspiring young boxer has been arrested just hours after he and his father were shot in a late-night attack outside their inner-Sydney home.

The pair was rushed to hospital after Joshua Smart, 23, was shot in the back and father Michael Smart, 49, was shot in the head on Jones Street in Pyrmont, just after 10.30pm on Sunday.

The father remains in a critical condition but the younger man was released from hospital yesterday afternoon.

He was taken into custody shortly after his release and charged with concealing a serious indictable offence, Fairfax Media reports.

He was refused bail to appear in court today.

Police said both men were known to them and that it was a targeted attack.

A neighbour said someone came to the back door of the Smarts' home before the men were gunned down.

Joshua Smart is training to be a boxer and had hoped to fight in Queensland next month.
